Announcing an exciting workshop to Bodie CA., Mono Lake, and Silver Lake. Your instructors will be Keith Skelton and Brian Leng. This workshop will take you to one of the world’s most photogenic locations: the landscape of the Eastern Sierra Range. We will photograph places such as Bodie, Mono Lake, Silver lake, and more. This workshop is open to of all levels of photography, using 35mm to large format, film and/or digital.
WORKSHOP GOALS
This workshop will mostly be about practicing and perfecting your craft. We will have daily discussions about "seeing", pre-visualization, and techniques. We will also present you a few exercises to help get your creativity flowing. These will be beneficial for all levels of photographers. We will also spend some time reviewing digital work flow, Camera RAW, converting to Black&White, and processing digital pictures.
ITINERARY
June 19th, 20th, 21st and 22nd. 2008
Thursday, June 19th 2008
The workshop starts Thursday, June 19th 2008. We will meet in Lee Vining at 5 pm for dinner and discuss our plans for the next three days. After eating we will have time to shoot the full moon rising over Mono Lake at dusk. The sunset is at 8:17pm and the full moonrise is at 9:30pm. It should be perfect.
Friday, June 20th
On Friday, June 20th, we will caravan over to the ghost town of Bodie. We will be there a good part of the day shooing photos. In the afternoon we will spend some time reviewing digital work flow, Camera RAW, and processing digital pictures before heading back out again for evening photography.
Saturday, June 21st
We will rise early in time for a sunrise shoot at Silver Lake which is only a few miles from Lee Vining. As the sun rises, it illuminates Carson Peak casting a perfect reflection on the Lake. This makes for a classic photograph. After our shoot we will eat breakfast at the Silver Lake Cafe which is a step back in time. They serve an awesome breakfast. Later that day we will have an informal critique of the photos that everyone has shot up this point and review digital techniques. You will be able to apply some of these lessons to our shooting Saturday evening.
Sunday, June 22nd
Sunday is mostly a travel day but we offer another sunrise shoot and breakfast for those that are willing. The workshop will conclude at 11 am.
FEES: The price of this workshop is $295.00. There is a $50.00 discount for any of our past students.
You will be responsible for all travel, meals, and accommodations. Contact us with any further questions. calphotoworkshops@earthlink.net
Link: http://www.red.com/nab/scarletThis camera might be advanced for many users but it is a glimpse into the future of photography....where one will shoot very high quality RAW video and stills from one device.
Is the RED ONE a video camera? RED does not record video, which is defined as an RGB signal. Think of the RED ONE as a RAW recording DSLR that shoots as high as 120 fps at 2K (30 fps at 4K).
SCARLET Overview
NAB’s bombshell was Scarlet, a 3K masterpiece targeting an under $3K price point. Employing a 2/3″ 3K sensor, built in 8X T2.8 Zoom lens that maintains speed through the zoom, 4.8″ flip out attached LCD, built in stereo mic, internal removable battery, dual CF card slot recording media, and an all aluminum body. Scarlet is the camera everybody will want and Scarlet will change the industry. There will be no reservation system for Scarlet; the day it is introduced is the day you can buy yours. Planned introduction is early 2009.
The details on Scarlet’s systems are forthcoming, as features will evolve over the next year. We had great input at NAB and Scarlet will reflect much of what we heard on the show floor. We are a company that listens and strives to make what the customer wants. The only ones disappointed will be our competitors.
The differences between still and video cameras is almost nil. Many new compact digital cameras offer a movie mode that takes a short video. Some video camcorders have the ability to take a small file still photo.
Now there are two new cameras that blur the differences between still and video cameras even further.

http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007We often get asked which are the best flash memory cards to use for a digital camera. Many people automatically go for the popular SanDisk or Lexar brands. There are a host of other brands that are excellent products and can save you money. I use the Transcend and Ridata brands. A 8GB Transcend can cost you around $140 compared to a similar SanDisk of over $300. Note that the write speeds of a Transcend 8GB 266X are less than one second slower than the SanDisk Extreme Ducati 8GB. Match your Digital SLR to a particular disk in the chart. With compact digital cameras (not included in this database) you can estimate the SD card speeds by checking the camera that uses the SD card (such as the Nikon D80) www.robgalbraith.com has updated the CF/SD Performance Database. It is a regularly-updated compilation of write and read speed test results designed to aid the serious and professional photographer in selecting camera storage media for a Canon or Nikon digital SLR. -Keith Skelton
